A beautiful ear stack often starts with a saved video. Before you order the jewelry that caught your eye, take a moment to check the details behind the look: the material touching your skin, the size of the post, the shape of the backing, and what is included.

At Kosiner Jewelry, our range brings together flat-back studs, hoops, curved barbells, and expressive designs for different ear-piercing placements. This guide helps you compare those choices and find a piece that suits your ear, your style, and your everyday routine.

Your buying checklist: healing stage, complete material details, testing evidence, measurements, closure and finish, real-life styling, and purchase terms.

1. Start with your piercing, including its healing stage

Shopping for a fully healed piercing is different from choosing initial jewelry. Your piercing placement, anatomy, and healing stage all influence which shape and size can work for you.

For a fresh or healing piercing, have a qualified piercer assess the jewelry and fit. The Association of Professional Piercers explains that initial jewelry requires suitable materials, construction, and sizing; gold-plated jewelry is not suitable for fresh piercings. A gold color or a “hypoallergenic” label alone does not establish suitability.

For healed piercings, begin with the location you want to style. Browse our Helix, Conch, and Tragus selections for ideas, then check the individual product specifications. Placement collections are a starting point; your own fit still matters.

Not sure which location is which? Keep our ear-piercing placement guide open while you explore.

2. Read the material details for the whole piece

If you have sensitive ears, look beyond the color of the decorative front. Check the material of the front, the post that passes through the piercing, and the backing. Some designs combine different materials in these components.

Material description What to confirm
14K solid gold Which components are solid gold, the alloy information available, and the care instructions.
Titanium Which components are titanium and what documentation supports any specific grade claim.
Gold-plated silver or another plated material The base metal, plating, post material, and care requirements.

Our Material Guide introduces the materials across the range. Use it alongside the exact product listing when comparing 14K solid gold jewelry, titanium options, and other finishes.

For skin-conscious shopping, clear specifications are more useful than a universal promise. Individual sensitivities vary, so “hypoallergenic” should not be read as a guarantee that nobody will react.

3. Look for testing evidence you can actually read

A testing claim becomes more useful when you can see what was tested and which results it supports. Kosiner Jewelry publishes Intertek report excerpts on our quality report page.

The published conclusion lists passing results for the tested components in the specified lead, cadmium, and nickel-release assessments. These results apply to the submitted samples and the tests shown. They do not establish that every design has been tested, or guarantee that every wearer will be free from irritation.

Read the original report excerpt and results on our quality report page. Check the sample and test scope when using a report to assess a particular product.

If you want to confirm whether a particular design is covered, contact service@kosinerjewelry.com with the product name or link. A specific question makes it easier to get the information that matters to your purchase.

4. Compare measurements before comparing photos

Close-up photography makes small details visible, but it can make a tiny stud look much larger than it is. Check four separate measurements: post thickness or gauge, wearable post length, decorative-top size, and inner diameter where relevant for hoops or curved jewelry.

A useful example is the Little Wonder 14K Solid Gold Rabbit Flat Back Stud. Its listing specifies a 4.5mm design, an 18G (1.0mm) post, and 5mm, 6.5mm, or 8mm post options. The motif stays the same across those lengths; the fit changes.

A small motif still needs the right post length. Check the listed dimensions and selected option before ordering.

There is no single post length that fits every ear. A low-profile fit should avoid squeezing the tissue or leaving unnecessary movement. Our flatback post-length guide explains the differences; a professional piercer can assess your individual fit.

5. Check the backing, closure, and finish

The front gets most of the attention, but the back is part of what you wear all day. Look for clear views of the post, backing, and removable parts. Check how the piece opens and whether the components are compatible.

A flat-back stud has a disc behind the ear. An internally threaded design connects its removable end to the inside of the post. Curved barbells have a different shape and sizing system, so confirm the exact design rather than assuming every piercing piece works in the same way.

For a closer look, watch our Instagram Reel on curved-barbell styling and how the pieces connect. The linked designs include the Delicate Pear Curved Barbell and Minimalist Curved Barbell.

Follow the product's care and closure instructions. Comfort also depends on fit, placement, and activity; a flat backing alone cannot guarantee comfortable sleep or make pressure on a healing piercing appropriate.

6. Use real-life video to judge the look

Product photographs help you inspect a design. On-ear video adds a view of scale, movement, spacing, and the relationship between pieces. Notice how the front and back sit, how much room a decorative top occupies, and whether the arrangement suits the look you want.

Our ear-styling Reel offers a closer look at jewelry worn on the ear, including the flat backs. Use it for styling inspiration alongside the product measurements; another person's ear is a reference, not a sizing template.

For a personal starting point, explore the playful motifs in Little Wonder, botanical forms in At Dawn, or the quieter sparkle of our lab-grown diamond selection. Original design is easier to appreciate when you can examine its details and see how it works within an ear stack.

You can build gradually: choose one focal piece, then consider smaller accents that leave it room to stand out. Keep checking each piece's material and fit as you add to the combination.

7. Confirm what arrives, how to care for it, and where to get help

Before checkout, check whether the listing is for a single piece or a pair, whether the post is included, and which size or finish you selected. For example, the Little Wonder rabbit stud is sold singly with the selected post; it does not include additional post lengths.

Read the care instructions for the exact material and stone. Solid gold, plated finishes, silver, and different stones can need different handling. Before ordering, review our Returns & Exchanges policy for the current conditions.

If a detail is unclear, email service@kosinerjewelry.com with the product link and your question. Clarifying a measurement or component before buying can make choosing much easier.

Choose with the details in view

Your next piece can express your style while meeting practical requirements. Start with the piercing you want to style, read the material and size information, look at the testing evidence available, and compare the product photos with on-ear video.

Explore Kosiner Jewelry flat-back studs and our placement collections to find your starting point. A considered ear stack comes together one well-chosen piece at a time.
